Solid Foundations: Playing From The Heart

Regardless of what instrument you play, music is about communication and expressing your emotions and your story.   Learning to project from your heart, as well as your hands, will help you make the connections to find your own guitar voice.

But first it must start with a solid foundation. I will share with you both the right-hand and left-hand approaches, technique and exercises that have worked for me, and will help bring grace, articulation and accuracy to your playing.

There will be a discussion of philosophical thoughts about writing, recording, and performing music.   Also tips about how to practice and ideas about recording yourself and how to distill that for improvement.

We will also explore how to bring discipline, inspiration, and most importantly, passion to your music.

    About Eric

Eric Tingstad is a Grammy Award winning multi-genre record producer, musician and songwriter / composer and performer.  Best known as a fingerstyle guitarist, Tingstad has performed, recorded and produced Alternative Country, Blues, Americana, Rock, Smooth Jazz and Ambient / New Age music.

Inspired by the landscape, nature and our stories, he describes his music as being rootsy guitar with a refined earthy twang.  Being classically trained, it is careful, articulate and he strives to make every note count. Invoking a thick and gritty sense of subtle beauty, it is music for deep thinkers, adventurers, explorers and quite often will conjure the spirit of First Nations peoples and those that live close to the land.

Eric lives close to Seattle where he inhabits his studio full time, occasionally breaking out to perform as a soloist or with his duos. His 2015 release “Mississippi” was #1 at radio, #2 in the Top 100 for the year, and was nominated for “Album of the Year”.
