      A Magical Evening with

      Mark Goldenberg & Jamie Stillway

Mark Goldenberg creates music that's both evocative and reflective, appealing to guitarists and non-guitarists alike. A well respected multi-style guitarist Mark’s been doing studio work for decades, as well as spending years on the road as lead guitarist with Jackson Browne from 1994 - 2010, and for a who's who of talented artists, including Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Eels, Natalie Imbruglia, Chris Isaak, Ringo Starr, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Peter Frampton, Joan Baez and William Shatner. From 2012-2014 he toured with acclaimed pianist and actor Hugh Laurie. In 2016 he played with Spanish superstar Manolo Garcia. He's also a songwriter and producer. His songs have been recorded by Linda Ronstadt, Chicago, the Pointer Sisters, Natalie Imbruglia, Eels, Chris Botti, and Olivia Newton John. His solo fingerstyle work is thought provoking and emotionally evocative. Jackson Browne described Mark's first, self-titled album this way: "Powerful, graceful, deeply melodic, and above all, emotional — Mark Goldenberg's acoustic guitar pieces shows off the imagination and technical excellence that fellow artists and record producers have relied upon for years." Legendary record producer Don Was called Mark the Shaquille O'Neal of popular guitar. "He has impeccable instincts and is a natural, intuitive, and generous player."

During the 1980’s Mark released four albums of instrumental music in Japan. He released his first self titled CD of solo guitar music in 2004. In 2015 Mark and guitarist Eric Skye released a recording of duo music: “Artifact”. Mark, along with noted drummer Jay Bellerose and bassist Jennifer Condos released “trio” a collection of instrumental pieces.

      Jamie Stillway

We are delighted to welcome Jamie Stillway back to the La Conner Guitar Festival! Jamie Stillway has been a guitarist and composer since she was a 13 years old. She grew up on an apple orchard in Minnesota, and started studying classical guitar in high school. After receiving a degree in film studies from the University of California at Santa Barbara, she began to study with the great ragtime and blues picker Kenny Sultan. After a brief stint in Denver as a rhythm guitarist in a gypsy jazz group, Jamie moved to Portland, Oregon in 2002, and has quietly been making her mark in the world of fingerstyle guitar. She has toured nationally and internationally, received an endorsement from Stevens Custom Guitars of Munich, and has become an in-demand instructor; teaching at the Healdsburg Guitar Festival, California Coast Music Camp, and Puget Sound Guitar Workshop, and the La Conner Guitar Festival. She has self-released 3 albums of original compositions, and her style of playing has brought comparisons to Leo Kottke, Django Reinhardt, Bill Frisell, Rev. Gary Davis and more. Her most recent release is a collection of solo compositions recorded live at Portland's Secret Society Studios. “Mixing up genres without pretension, the nimble Stillway moves freely with wit and creative restlessness.” Jazz Times “Cerebral jazz with blues roots and humor. Instrumental guitar at its best.” The Oregonian
