Beyond the Roar and the Thunder: The Art of the 12 String Guitar
In an introduction to and an exploration of the 12 String Guitar, I will touch on the history of this magnificent instrument and its players. We'll then broaden the discussion to include the Renaissance and Baroque Lutes, two other double-coursed, stringed instruments that have influenced my approach to guitar playing.
If you are a 12 String player, I’ll share what works for me: tuning the instrument, string spacing, string tension and action. I’ll also discuss my techniques for playing paired strings individually, and incorporating the upper octave string pairs into the melody line.
While demonstrating some of my tunes and arrangements, I’ll walk you through some alternate tunings, voicings, and notation for the 12 String and we’ll discuss how to breathe life into your music. If you are considering buying a 12 String, I’ll give you some tips on what to look for in a guitar.
Throughout this event I will do my best to answer questions, share resources, and help inspire your guitar playing experience.
