Open and Alternative Tunings for Guitarists and Vocalist/Guitarists

The use of open and alternative tunings for 6 & 12-String Guitar brings an expanded musical canvas of sonority, timbre, texture and voicings to instrumentalists and vocalists alike. Vocalists such as Joni Mitchell, and guitarists such as John Fahey, Leo Kottke & Peter Lang brought these tunings into the forefront during the original “Folk Scare” of the late 60s and into the 70s.
Tracy & Stanley will cover the three basic open tunings, D, G and C in various musical styles, and explore DADGAD and other tunings brought to us by overseas guitarists such as Pierre Bensusan, Martin Simpson, and others.

Beyond the basic open tunings, we’ll explore the possibilities of altering the pitch of one string within a “standard” opening tuning to bring more interest to your arrangements, compositions, accompaniments, and to bring your musical head closer to exploding! (In a good way, of course.)
Bring your ears, your guitar, (optional) and questions. There will be hand-outs, but no test… Let’s do this!

    About Tracy

Music that is delicate, dynamic, serious and often whimsical flow from Camano Island’s Tracy Moore and his 12 String Guitars. Trained in Classical Guitar and Renaissance Lute, Tracy's reputation as a premier 12 String Guitarist has captured the attention of Guitar Player and Acoustic Guitar Magazines. His passion for the 12 String Guitar is clearly evident. His music will take your mind on a creative aural and pictorial journey.
